Ollie’s Canine Campus Plans for Animal Rescue During COVID-19

Terre Haute, Ind.  – A Terre Haute company is using time during the COVID-19 quarantine to help home stray animals in the area.

Ollie’s Canine Campus (480 W Honey Creek Drive) is opening their doors for stray and displaced animals. With shelters in the area closed to new animals, fosters and drop-offs, Ollie’s owner Tom Kuhl says he has stepped in to help, an initiative that was already in the works as Kuhl looks to open a second location.

“We had been planning to add a rescue when we open that second location,” he explains. “It would be where we will accept strays and rehome dogs to ‘furever’ homes. We already have been doing that extensively, just not very wide known as of yet.”

Not only has the staff at Ollie’s opened their doors to stray dogs, but their rehome success rate is already at perfection.

“Our vetting process and rehome success rate is 100 percent,” Kuhl says. “I would say in the last year, we have found 30 ‘furever’ homes for the puppies we have taken in, both young and old.”

Kuhl notes Ollie’s Canine Campus is not a registered non-profit or 501c3 organization, so the majority of the funding to feed and home each stray has come out of pocket for himself and the business. The contract with the City of Terre Haute does helps to offset some of the cost.

“We hope to have a productive summer where we can see our regular friends,” Kuhl says of the dogs he’s come to know over the years running Ollie’s. “This has been hard on all of us, and that includes our animals. We’re just happy to be able to help during this time and hopefully continue to find ‘furever’ homes for stray dogs in Terre Haute.”
