Talent and Workforce Development

Terre Haute and the entire region is home to five higher education institutions who work closely with the area’s business leaders and employers. Degree programs, certifications and courses are created to meet the needs of employers today, and tomorrow, ensuring students have the skills and resources they need to succeed. There are several area organizations focused on connecting and building community leaders. Wabash Valley Leadership Institute

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce have partnered to launch the Wabash Valley Leadership Institute (WVLI). As a collaborative effort between the two organizations and with the support of community organizations and sponsors, the purpose of the WVLI is to engage and energize leadership efforts in the Wabash Valley. The program curriculum will focus on leadership skills with the intended effects of personal growth in leadership, organizational behavioral skills, and potential community growth in a leadership capacity. Leadership Connect

Terre Haute Young Leaders began in 2006 under the leadership of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce focusing on preserving, protecting and promoting a business-friendly environment for the community’s young professionals.

In 2019 the organization relaunched new branding and a new name, Leadership Connect of West Central Indiana.

We believe in the importance of retaining talent for local businesses. Leadership Connect is committee is a professional development program of the Chamber that aims to support young talent and provide them with professional development and networking opportunities. From educational seminars to social networking activities, LC works to captivate the young professional audience and initiate their involvement in the local business community. Purdue Extension Leadership Vigo County

Purdue Extension’s Community Leadership Program is a locally hosted leadership development course for adults who want to make a difference in their communities. Through this series of 11 interactive modules, participants learn about their own leadership capacity, the people, organizations and institutions that make up their communities and how they can engage in serving their communities more deeply.

In many Indiana counties, the new Community Leadership Program is developing into an annual offering that engages many community partners in preparing the next generation of leaders.
