Garmong Construction Dedicates Day to Downtown Terre Haute Clean-Up

Terre Haute, Ind. – Just in time for the relaunch of First Friday, the employees at Garmong Construction Services are dedicating Friday, May 7 to serving Downtown Terre Haute.

Throughout the day employees will spend time cleaning downtown, planting flowers, picking up trash and more. As a treat, volunteers will then eat lunch downtown; supporting local restaurants in the process.

“When we were approached by Garmong about the clean-up, we were extremely grateful,” says Chamber President Kristin Craig. “Not only does it help us put our best foot forward for First Friday, but it’s wonderful to see a company working to serve the community.”

Garmong encourages its employees to be active in their communities and provides various volunteer opportunities across all three of its Indiana locations – Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Evansville. As a result, employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours each year through their community and civic involvement, as well as behind the scenes on planning committees and boards. Additionally, to solidify their support, Garmong provides the necessary flexibility for them to maintain those commitments.

“Many of our employees are actively engaged in their communities and Garmong encourages these efforts as a top priority. We recognize, even more so following nearly a year of quarantine, that our employees are eager to give back and serve their communities” Chief Operations Officer Brian Kooistra explained. “Friday is no exception to our efforts to be good stewards in our communities, but because we’re working in the City where Garmong was founded nearly 100 years ago does make it a little more special,” he added.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Downtown Terre Haute has not hosted an organized clean-up. Traditionally, groups from around the community donate their time throughout the spring and summer months. Students from Indiana State University also participate in Downtown revitalization efforts during the annual Donaghy Day.

“We’re honored to have the staff and employees from Garmong set the wheels in motion again with giving back to Downtown,” Craig says.
