Chamber Hiring Director of Community Development

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is seeking a motivated, community-minded individual to join
their dynamic team of professionals. This person will be primarily responsible for implementation of the
Community Planning initiative which was launched by the Chamber in early 2019. Implementation of
this plan requires in-depth knowledge of the Terre Haute/Vigo County area, as well as the West Central
region (Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo).


Title: Director of Community Development
Position Overview:
• Create framework, develop implementation plan and manage all actions for community plan
• Identify opportunities, leverage relationships to create regional partnerships
• Identify and recruit businesses to engage in all Chamber initiatives
• Assist in overall growth of Chamber
• Part-time, approximately 26 hours/week
• Salary based on candidate qualifications/experience
Specific Responsibilities:
• Community Planning
o Responsible for public engagement/stakeholder recruitment and engagement
o Work with marketing team to create user-friendly platforms, messaging and relevant
content for continued engagement
o Assemble/lead implementation team for each identified strategy
o Work with marketing team to implement community and regional branding
• Regional Development
o Work with regional planning partners to identify critical issues in each county
o Create regional planning documents
o Identify, pursue engagement opportunities in each county
o Development of 21st Century Talent Region designation teams and programming
• General Chamber Responsibilities
(As part of a small, non-profit team, all staff are required to do the following)
o Connect businesses within the region to development resources
o Identify, recruit new Chamber members
o Identify, recruit sponsors for events and initiatives
o Assist in staffing for all Chamber events/initiatives

• Professional with intimate knowledge of the community and high level of personal credibility
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate with wide range of partners
• Superior customer service skills
• Creativity and project management skills
• Desire to take initiative and develop pro-active relationships with partners through follow-up,
understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
• Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once
without sacrificing attention to detail
• Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office with
ability to learn new software programs
• Must be willing and able to travel (partners, training, events, etc.) as needed
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
