Chamber Announces New Downtown Terre Haute First Friday

Terre Haute, Ind. – A familiar event is coming back to Downtown Terre Haute, with a whole new spin. The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce with the organization’s Downtown Terre Haute initiative is excited to announce a new version of the monthly First Friday, in the form of First Friday: Block Party sponsored by Terre Haute Chevrolet. The new version of First Friday will combine traditional First Friday activities which encourages participants to visit local museums, stores, restaurants, while adding a family-friendly outdoor element along 6th Street.

First Friday: Block Party will be hosted from 7pm to 10pm, after the traditional First Friday elements from 5pm to 7pm. Beginning at 7pm, 6th Street between Wabash and Ohio Streets will be closed. The street will be transformed into an open-air beer garden, with family activities, food trucks and live music. The popular Terre Haute band, Mullet Over, will kick-off the new instillation of First Friday on April 3, 2020.

“It’s no secret that First Friday needed some new excitement and we believe this is the perfect way to ignite this event,” says Chamber President Kristin Craig. “The outpouring of support for this new concept has been extraordinary. We’d especially like to thank Terre Haute Chevrolet, Indiana State University, First Financial Bank and the four local restaurants that have been working on this from the beginning, The Verve, Copper Bar, Wise Pies and the Saratoga.”

The City of Terre Haute has also stepped up to help coordinate the new First Friday. Mayor Duke Bennett has pledged support through donations of picnic tables and other necessary elements. Police Chief Shawn Keen also signed off on the project.
