Chamber Announces Internship Experience Program

Terre Haute, Ind. – The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce internship programming that will help build the pipeline of our local workforce.

The Intern Experience IN West Central Indiana will consist of 5 weeks of programming to introduce intern program participants to people and places of West Central Indiana. The experience will consist of exciting social events featuring local highlights, leadership training, peer relationship building, and meetings with elected officials.

“Getting talented young people to feel connected to the community and seeing what our region has to offer is key to retaining a workforce that is vital to our continued positive momentum,” said Kristin Craig, Executive Director of the Terre Haute Chamber.

The Indiana Destination Development Corporation piloted an internship experience in Fort Wayne last year and will be partnering with the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce to bring this program to West Central Indiana.

“It is important that we show young people all of the wonderful experiences and opportunities we have to offer ‘IN Indiana’ while they are serving as summer interns,” said Elaine Bedel, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Indiana Destination Development Corporation. “We are thrilled to partner with the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce to create ‘The Internship Experience IN West Central Indiana,’ building on the successful program we launched in 2023 with Fort Wayne.”

Applications for businesses to participate in the program are open now until March 1, 2024. Selected businesses will be notified by April 15, 2024.

In addition to the internship experience, the Terre Haute Chamber is also partnering with the Indiana Chamber to provide resources to businesses on best practices to develop and grow their own intern programs. A seminar will be held March 4.
