The Vigo County History Center Announces Special Program; Vice & Virtue in Vigo County

The Vigo County History Center is pleased to announce a special program; Vice & Virtue in Vigo County

A new exhibit will open on Friday January 28 in the Special Exhibit Gallery at the Vigo County History Center. The display will feature the history behind Terre Haute’s inglorious label as a “Sin City” and walk visitors through the shadows of the Red Light District, designated on the city’s West Side. The exhibit will cover the story of crime- corruption and reform in the Wabash Valley.

Following the opening of the new exhibit, the History Center will host a presentation and book signing by Tim Crumrin. Presentation begins this Saturday, January 29th, at 2:00pm in the auditorium of the History Center at 929 Wabash Ave.

County historian and author, Crumrin will provide a discussion on his research and writings of Terre Haute’s bawdy past. His newest publication, “Terre Haute’s Notorious Red Light District” is scheduled to be released in February. Mr. Crumrin retired as Historian and Director of Conner Prairie Museum in 2014. It was then he was awarded the prestigious Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement in Indiana History Award. He is the author of numerous publications, including some focused on our local history.

Today Tim Crumrin continues to write while working as the Vigo County Historian and entertaining audiences across the Wabash Valley with speaking presentations. We are proud to share this special guest and opportunity with visitors to the History Center for the price of admission or free to members.
