Celebrate Women’s History Month at the Vigo County Historical Society
Please join the Vigo County Historical Society Museum for the month of March as we celebrate Women’s History Month by sharing achievements and history made by local women who have contributed to the rich heritage of our county. From creative authors and artists, to independent- minded suffragists, daring aviators, high fashion actresses, barrier breaking architects, to women who changed the way we think about mental health and philanthropy, Vigo County has a significant history of women who have contributed to local history and heritage. Some broke the gender barriers and some broke into the troposphere, but all of them share a continuing legacy that we showcase at the Vigo County Historical Society Museum. Learn about Fannie Blumberg, a local artist and author, and Juliet Peddle, an architect with a passion for history and preservation in the Historic Hauteans exhibit on the second floor.
Come to the museum and learn about the amazing women who have made Vigo County their home over the years. And if for any reason you can’t come to the museum, follow along with us on our Facebook page as we explore their stories and celebrate their contributions. Remember, our history isn’t just a static, linear timeline of when things happened. It’s a tapestry replete with tales of personal triumph over tragedy and hardship, stories woven from achievements that defied the odds and gave hope to others, and shared experiences that improved people’s lives and progressed our understanding of the world around us. Our interpretive exhibits will show you where the thread of each of their stories begins and will shed light on how each of their stories are woven into the historic fabric of Vigo County.
Come to the Vigo County Historical Society Museum…and be a “herstory” maker in March!
