Chamber Board of Directors Votes To Continue Downtown Terre Haute Mission

Terre Haute, IN – The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors have approved plans to continue Downtown Terre Haute under the overall Chamber of Commerce organization.

Approved on Tuesday, DTH and its mission to “preserve, create and promote a downtown neighborhood that is a vibrant hub for business, entertainment, government, arts and educational activity, attracting both local residents and area visitors” will continue through the Chamber.

In mid-March the DTH Board of Directors voted to dissolve the organization, which was approved by the organization’s membership. At that time, the Chamber proposed to adopt the mission and vision of DTH under an additional committee within the Chamber organization. Members of the former DTH Board will serve on a committee focused solely on DTH.

“As with the business community, the Chamber is always looking for ways to grow, change and be more successful,” explains Chamber Vice President Kristin Craig. “We see this partnership as another way to achieve those goals. As a staff we are anxious and energized to get to work.”

Chamber President David Haynes says discussions between both the DTH Board and Chamber BOD began when the future of DTH was in question earlier this year. Talks between both organizations have been ongoing since January, a process that needed to be fully vetted through before making a permanent change. Haynes says he’s very optimistic about the future of both organizations.

“The Chamber and DTH are very similar in that we are both member based organizations focused on bettering the business community through many different avenues,” Haynes explains. “The Chamber has a strong network of business partners and by bringing in the downtown community we continue to strengthen ourselves and the Wabash Valley.”

The Chamber will host several community brainstorming sessions in April to help determine the goals and strategic initiatives for the committee.

These will be hosted at the Chamber office in downtown Terre Haute at the following times:

Tuesday, April 11 @ 8am, Monday, April 17 @ Noon and Tuesday, April 18 @ 4pm.
