Terre Haute Chamber Takes Advocacy Priorities to Washington, D.C.

By Kristin Craig, President/CEO

As part of the Terre Haute Chamber’s ongoing commitment to representing the voice of business and industry, President/CEO Kristin Craig led a group of community leaders to Washington, D.C., earlier this week for a federal advocacy fly-in. The group met directly with Indiana’s congressional delegation to elevate the priorities of Terre Haute, Vigo County and West Central Indiana.

These meetings provided an important opportunity to ensure the voices of our regional business community are heard at the federal level and that policymakers understand the unique opportunities and challenges facing our area. Specifically, the group of community leaders discussed several key priorities, including the need for a third lane on I-70, as well as defense-related economic development.

The delegation met with several members of Indiana’s congressional leadership, including:

  • Senator Jim Banks

  • Senator Todd Young

  • Representative Mark Messmer

  • Representative Erin Houchin

  • Representative Frank Mrvan

The group also met with the staff from Congressmen Jim Baird and Andre Carson's offices.

The goal of the annual DC Fly-In event is to strengthen relationships with Indiana’s federal delegation and reinforce the Chamber’s role as a trusted, nonpartisan business voice.

These conversations help ensure that when legislation or funding decisions are considered in Washington, D.C., the needs of Terre Haute and West Central Indiana are part of the discussion.
