Terre Haute & Vigo County Statehouse Day: Advancing Community Priorities at the State Level

By Kristin Craig, President/CEO

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its annual Terre Haute/Vigo County Statehouse Day, bringing regional leaders to Indianapolis to advocate for priorities critical to the future of West Central Indiana. The trip included representatives from city and county government, the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation and business leadership. Throughout the day, discussions were centered on several key priorities:

Expansion of a Third Lane on I-70
Improving the I-70 corridor remains a top regional infrastructure priority. A third lane would enhance safety, support freight movement, and strengthen West Central Indiana’s competitive position for business attraction and expansion.

Expansion of Regionalism Funding
Building on the momentum of previous regional investment programs, the Chamber advocated for expanded regional funding opportunities. Sustained state investment in collaborative, multi-county initiatives will help ensure long-term economic growth and competitiveness.

The 181st Intelligence Wing & Drone Dominance Initiative
The 181st Intelligence Wing remains a strategic asset for Terre Haute and the state. Conversations included the region’s role in advancing Indiana’s position within the emerging drone dominance initiative, highlighting the intersection of defense, innovation, and workforce development.

The Statehouse Day included productive meetings with key state leaders and agencies, including:

  • Governor Mike Braun

  • Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC)

  • Speaker Todd Huston

  • Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)

  • Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR)

The day concluded with a local legislative dinner, which provided an opportunity for candid discussion about legislative priorities, regional opportunities, and how the Terre Haute and Vigo County business community can continue working collaboratively with state policymakers. Members of the delegation in attendance included:

  • Senator Greg Goode

  • Representative Bob Heaton

  • Representative Tonya Pfaff

  • Representative Tim Yocum

  • Representative Justin Moed

The Terre Haute Chamber’s annual Statehouse Day continues to provide a unified, targeted advocacy approach, aligning shared priorities and presenting clear, data-informed positions. We look forward to continuing this important work in partnership with our state leaders.
