[Terre Haute, IN] – The Terre Haute Symphony League is proud to present their virtual fundraising event, Hats Off to Broadway featuring Terre Haute native and alumna of Terre Haute North Vigo High School Caroline Goodwin (soprano) and THSO Principal Keyboard Timothy Stephenson (piano) for an evening of Broadway hits from musicals such as West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, My
Fair Lady, Sweeney Todd, The Music Man, and more! The event will include a streamed concert (approximately 60 minutes) and a melodious silent auction featuring two unique Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra experiences during the 2021-2022 season! The silent auction will be open June 6 through June 13 and includes generous donations from Edibles Catering, the Terre Haute Country Club, Stables Steakhouse, and more.

Tickets can be purchased for only $15 at www.thso.org. Patrons must purchase a ticket to view the concert and bid on items in the silent auction between June 6 and June 13.

Proceeds from the event will support the Terre Haute Symphony during their upcoming 2021-2022 season as they make their triumphant return to the Tilson Auditorium stage.

About the Terre Haute Symphony League
The Symphony League is a group of premiere volunteers who help promote the interest and presentation of the THSO in the Wabash Valley. Activities and projects include:
 Planning an annual fundraiser to support a sponsorship for 1 THSO season concert
 Representing the symphony at the Vigo County Public Library’s annual Family Learning Day and providing an instrument petting zoo for young children
 Representing the symphony in Arts Illiana’s annual Tablescapes fundraiser
 Providing snacks and refreshments for symphony musicians during rehearsals

The League also helps promote symphony concerts and activities and encourages music education and appreciation among youth and adults.

About the Featured Artists

Caroline Goodwin, soprano

Caroline Goodwin is a soprano pursuing a Master of Music in Voice under the tutelage of Brian Horne at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. She received a Bachelor of Science in Voice with an Outside Field in History from IU in May of 2021.

A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Caroline first began performing in musicals at Terre Haute North Vigo High School. There, she sang the role of Maria in West Side Story her senior year. Caroline has most recently appeared on the proscenium stage in the chorus of IU Opera Theatre’s Xerxes. Other past roles (with various organizations) include Liesl in The Sound of Music, Mrs. Mayor in Seussical the Musical, and Lou Ann in Hairspray.
Her other opera chorus experiences include Bernstein’s Mass with IU Opera Theatre and The Jungle with New Voices Opera.

During her time at Indiana University, Caroline has also sung several roles with ROK: Reimagining Opera for Kids, an outreach organization that commissions and produces children’s operas for performances at Indiana grade schools. During her senior year at IU, Caroline commissioned her friend and colleague Alex Tedrow to compose A Few Figs from Thistles, a song cycle based on the poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay. She premiered the work in April of 2021. While Caroline is a lover of all types of music, she is excited to return to her roots with Hats Off to Broadway!

 

 

Timothy Stephenson, piano
A multi-faceted artist, Timothy Stephenson has performed widely in the United States as both a soloist and chamber musician. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Timothy Muffet and Thomas Wilkins, with whom he gave a performance of Beethoven’s first piano concerto that received critical acclaim in The Herald Times. An avid collaborator, Stephenson’s violin-piano duo made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2017 with a showcase recital of modern duo works. He is also a founding member of the award-winning jazz combo Cofield and earned a place in the semi-finals of the 2009 Jacksonville Jazz Amateur Competition as a soloist.

A dedicated music educator, Stephenson holds faculty positions at IU’s Jacobs Academy and San Jose’s Pacific Piano School. His students describe him as a highly personable teacher who articulates great methods for technique, memorization, and musicality.

Stephenson is a doctoral candidate at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, having studied with world-class pianist and teacher Norman Krieger. He has also worked with André Watts, Hyun-Kuan Chen, Paul Schenly, and Anton Nel. Stephenson has appeared in masterclasses with Jerome Lowenthal, Paul Lewis, Ian Hobson, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Logan Skelton, Alexander Korsantia, Arnaldo Cohen, Lisa Moore, and Wynton Marsalis.
