Salvation Army Disaster Services Volunteer Training Opportunity

Volunteers are being sought by the Salvation Army to assist in hurricane affected areas. Individuals interested in helping  can register for free Emergency Disaster Training on November 2 and 3rd, 2017 from 4 PM to 8 PM each evening. The trainings will take place at 502 N. Court Street in Sullivan, IN. All courses are being taught by The Salvation Army’s Sullivan County Service Extension Coordinator Michelle Smith.

In effort to aid those affected by recent hurricanes and other disasters, the Salvation Army will teach volunteers how to safely provide food, water and supplies before they are on the ground in a disaster area. The organization is planning for a long-term relief operation that will require extensive volunteer support for as long as the communities require it, which will be from months to years.

These courses will also make individuals eligible for the local Salvation Army Disaster Services teams to respond to fires and other disasters in the Vigo County and the greater Wabash Valley area.

Prior to the classroom courses, volunteers will need to go register on the Salvation Army website. This website is located at http://disaster.salvationarmyusa.org/training/?classes&state=IN.  Courses do cost $10 each ($20 for both classes) to cover material costs.
