Mental Health America of West Central Indiana: How We’re Helping

Greetings to you from Mental Health America of West Central Indiana Staff,

Are you feeling a little thrown for a loop? Today, I’ve already heard COVID-19 compared to a hurricane, a tornado, and a perfect storm. Others feel like sand is shifting beneath their feet. Things are changing rapidly.

this is an unpredictable time for everyone. Many people are feeling helpless, isolated, and anxious. At the same time, so many are reaching out on social media and asking, “How can I help?”

So, how can MHAWCI help?

Because the agency cares about the safety and well-being of those we serve as well as our volunteers, staff, and the Region 7 community, we are following protocol and cooperating with local authorities every step of the way.

Nonprofit organizations didn’t expect to be considered “nonessential,” but here we are practicing social distancing, working from home, and creating virtual community to offer mental health advocacy and brain health support– the reason why we do what we do.

Much of the attention is focused, rightly so, on those needing critical services like health care, food, and safety, we want to continue to inspire, encourage, and empower our community during this precarious time.

The agency wanted to take a moment to share how MHAWCI is responding to COVID-19 and how we are trying to help.

  • The staff is still working full-time, every day and staying in contact through several outlets.
  • Even though the main office is closed, the staff is still available through emails, phone calls, and virtual meetings.
  • All events and gatherings have been cancelled through April, but the agency hopes to reschedule things sooner than later.
  • Right now, the agency’s main focus are the current clients and tenants’ essential needs.  Food, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies are scarce to everyone.
  • Persons experiencing homelessness are limited more than ever to these particular life essentials. MHAWCI is working every day to find solutions to keep tenants and clients afloat.

These changes mean an unexpected increase in expenses due to program delivery shifts and reductions in operational income. Making a donation to help defray these additional costs and unexpected losses would be a great help.

MHAWCI believes in keeping love, joy, and patience flowing – even while engaging in social distancing. This type of crisis is increasing fear, panic, and uncertainty. The agency supports the people who are not only physically impacted, but also emotionally impacted, to the point of creating mental health issues.

That’s why MHAWCI is asking you to consider giving today and supporting our efforts during this incredibly difficult period.

Please check our website and social media for updates.

We will get through this together — while apart.
