Member News: Bob Baesler Receives Sagamore Award

A Terre Haute legend to many received a legendary Indiana award, the Sagamore of the Wabash Award on April 7, 2016.

Local business owner, Bob Baesler, was presented the award by Indiana Governor Mike Pence, during the governor’s visit to the Wabash Valley.

According to www.in.gov, the award is the state’s highest honor, which the Governor of Indiana bestows. It is a tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor.

Past recipients of the Sagamore include astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, artists, musicians and politicians.

The award presentation was a surprise to Baesler. Pence and Senator Jon Ford announced the recognition on Thursday afternoon at Baesler’s Market, along with the Baesler family, Terre Haute Chamber President David Haynes and Indiana State University Government Relations Director Greg Goode.

This isn’t the first time Baesler has been recognized for his work and public service. The list of community contributions and accolades is lengthy; including a Jefferson Award, ISU Distinguished Alumni Award and other honors by the Terre Haute Kiwanis Club and Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce.
