ISU’s Strong Academics Recognized in College Rankings

Indiana State University was honored in several rankings released recently, demonstrating university-wide quality of academic programs.

The honors included Washington Monthly’s National University Rankings, which placed ISU third in Indiana among public schools behind only Purdue University and Indiana University. ISU ranked No. 128 overall, placing in the top third among national universities.

Washington Monthly’s rankings are based on “contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service.”

ISU ranked first in the state among public schools — and in the top 9% overall — in Community Service.

ISU was also recognized among the Best Colleges for Student Voting. That category was not ranked.

“We’re proud to be recognized once again for the high-quality education we provide,” ISU President Dr. Deborah J. Curtis said. “These rankings are a credit to our bright, caring students, our world-class faculty, and our dedicated staff. We appreciate that our community service and our students’ engagement in the democratic process was recognized as well. ISU is not currently a voting site for 2022, but as a voting site in previous years, I think it is important to state that the university stands ready to serve again.”

The Princeton Review included ISU among its “Best Midwestern” schools. The category, which was not ranked, recognizes colleges and universities “that we consider academically outstanding and well worth consideration in your college search.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings released this week focused on relatively few specific programs. ISU fared particularly well in these programs:

  • Top 11 percent in the Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs.
  • Top 36 percent among Best Undergraduate Computer Science Programs.
  • Top 41 percent in Best Undergraduate Business Programs.

Some rankings that U.S. News posted were from rankings published in previous years.
