The Impact on Give to Blue

With Give to Blue Day fast approaching, I wanted to take time to reminisce on my experiences at Indiana State University and what Give to Blue Day means to me. In August of 2017, I packed my bags and left a town of 500 to move to the “big city” of Terre Haute. I knew no one, was three hours from home, and had little idea of my purpose in life and where it would bring me. Months prior to attending Indiana State University, I fell upon an incredible scholarship opportunity within the Scott College of Business Insurance and Risk Management Program. An endowment from Don and Pat Gongaware awarded me the ability to study Insurance without having to worry about the burden of my finances.

What I did not realize at the time was that the financial assistance brought by this scholarship did not even scratch the surface of the many blessings I would receive. Following my arrival at Indiana State University, Terre Haute has since become my second home. I have lived here, obtained my education here, and even worked for several small businesses in the area. I have explored countless hobbies and passions, taken on a multitude of leadership positions, volunteered at numerous locations in the area, traveled to six countries, and found my future career. These achievements can all be credited to my donors.

Give to Blue Day has become my outlet to turn the tables, not only for ISU students but for our Terre Haute community as a whole. Each year I become thrilled to see my donation pop up on the screen as one of thousands of Indiana State students, alumni, and donors. I believe Give to Blue Day serves as a reminder that each and every one of us can bring about the change needed to create a stronger Terre Haute community. Whether it be March 3rd or any other day of the year, I encourage you to give, give often, and give to blue.
