Downtown Terre Haute Relaunches First Friday Events

Downtown Terre Haute Relaunches First Friday Events

Terre Haute, Ind. – The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, along with Downtown Terre Haute, is excited to announce the relaunch of the popular First Friday event series. Terre Haute Chevrolet will again serve as the event’s title sponsor.

“Terre Haute Chevrolet is proud to support Downtown Terre Haute as the title sponsor for First Friday,” says Terre Haute Chevrolet General Manager Kevin Cauble. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to support the businesses of downtown, along with an event that brings our community together for a fun and safe experience.”

Since its inception in 2015, First Friday has served as a family friendly way to experience downtown Terre Haute on the first Friday of the month. Restaurants, museums, shops and local businesses work together to present specials, activities and live music throughout downtown.

The new launch of First Friday will continue traditional offerings, including indoor and outdoor activities, music and more. Crossroads Cyclery will set-up a kid’s bike rally and additional family activities will be offered thanks to May and June activities sponsor Mark Metheny, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones.

All festivities will coincide with Eat in the Streets. The weekly outdoor dining experience, headed by the Verve owner Connie Wrinn and Saratoga Restaurant owner George Azar, extends a participating restaurant’s dining capacity to Wabash Avenue.

“More and more people are receiving their COVID-19 vaccination, along with relaxed guidelines from the CDC, so we feel comfortable to proceed with First Friday events, as most activities will be outside, along Wabash Avenue,” explains Chamber President Kristin Craig. “Restaurants and small business have been some of the hardest hit over the last year and a half, so we’re anxious to bring people back to downtown.”

This is not the first time Downtown Terre Haute has worked to relaunch First Friday. In March 2020 the Chamber announced a new spin on the First Friday format with a “Block Party” style event, including beer gardens and live bands. Unfortunately the events never happened, due to COVID-19 shutdowns.

“Cancelling First Friday in 2020 was difficult because there was a lot of momentum and excitement surrounding the new format,” Craig says. “We’re lucky that our title sponsor, Terre Haute Chevrolet continued to support the event, along with the Downtown Advisory Board and all the businesses in downtown. It’s a little bit of a ‘better late than never’ situation; we’re glad to finally get First Friday going again.”

First Friday: May 2021 will kick-off on Friday, May 7. Family friendly activities are available from 5-8pm, with live music 6-8pm.
