Defense Development opportunities for West Central Indiana focus of 105th Annual meeting

Terre Haute, IN – After a year of great strides by the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce in way of Defense Development and Advocacy, the organization wraps-up its 105th Annual Meeting with a great focus on the future of the West Central Indiana region.

Starting with the venue, which created a natural inside look at defense in the community with involvement by the 181st Intelligence Wing. As the Hulman Center continues renovations, the Chamber tapped the 181st for use of the hangar and vintage planes compliments of Hoosier Aviation.

The 181st Intelligence Wing is one of the leading intelligence organizations in the Air National Guard. Located at Hulman Field Air National Guard Base, the 181st IW supports contingencies around the world while ensuring readiness to support our local community and the great state of Indiana.

Indiana Defense was also represented by Danielle Chrysler, director of the Indiana Office of Defense Development. During her remarks Chrysler explained that she has been to the area nearly a dozen times this year – and for good reason.

“I believe you have something unique and special in this area,” Chrysler explains. She continued to say West Central Indiana is becoming a major asset and supporter of defense development.

2018 has seen a large increase in government advocacy and defense relations within the Chamber. This year the Chamber developed the West Central Indiana Defense Development Task Force. This group is tasked with creating a comprehensive Defense Development strategy for Terre Haute, Vigo County and West Central Indiana.

The task force will work with community leaders representing higher education, industry and elected officials, as well as the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to develop a comprehensive regional plan on how our community can take action, and work with other communities across the state to best position ourselves for success in defense development.
