Congressman Larry Bucshon Hosts Virtual Meeting for Chamber Members

Terre Haute, Ind.  – With both political and healthcare experience, US Congressman Dr. Larry Bucshon, sat down on Thursday morning with members of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce for a virtual hour-long conversation.

Coordinated by Congressman Bucshon’s local office and the Chamber of Commerce, the conversation included a question and answer period, along with an overall recap of recent COVID-19 state and federal relief opportunities.

“First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to join us today Congressman. In these very uncertain times, it is nice to have you, as a friendly and familiar face take a few minutes to brief us from the federal perspective,” Chamber President Kristin Craig said during the call. “This has hit our business community hard, and I’m afraid we really don’t understand the full extent of the impact quite yet.”

The Congressman acknowledged the uncertainty for the entire West Central Indiana region, answering questions from small business owners and non-profit organization leaders.

“Be patient, but I want you all to know, the system works,” he said. “This is delicate situation and I am trying to avoid the politics of it. We all need to realize that we need to take the best approach we can and begin to figure out how we can come back from a complete shutdown.”

Detailing federal funding that is currently available and additional funding coming soon, Congressman Bucshon explained more about the Paycheck Protection Program, ways to volunteer in the community in which we live and Congressional healthcare calls in which he’s participated.

Looking forward, the Congressman stressed the importance of being prepared for future events.

“At the federal level we are looking nationally at the readiness of how to treat problems from a national security side,” he said. “We also need to look backwards at this and what are the deficits that we have as a country? This is a complicated situation, one of the things that we did not do well was being able to test people (for COVID-19). In the future we are going to have a more national response to these problems. We need to ask, what are the issues that the American healthcare profession needs to address?”
