Coca-Cola Bottle Festival
Downtown Terre Haute Announces Birthplace of the Coca-Cola Bottle Festival
Downtown Terre Haute and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce have announced plans for the second Birthplace of the Coca-Cola Bottle Festival. Which will be held September 21, 2019.
“We are honored to be able to create a festival that ties the iconic Coca-Cola contour bottle to our community,” says Downtown Terre Haute Coordinator Stephanie Pence. “This festival will give our community a better understanding of our rich industrial design history.”
The event will celebrate Terre Haute as the “birthplace” of the original Coca-Cola bottle, which was created in 1915 by The Root Glass Company. The business won a competition in which they created the glass Coke bottle’s distinctive contoured design, according to Susan Tingley of the Vigo County Historical Society.
“We are excited to see Terre Haute embracing its place in history as the birthplace of the bottle that is known around the world,” Tingley says. “That community pride can be seen in the 6′ Coke Bottle sculptures that now dot the city landscape, the giant Coca-Cola Bottle mural painted on the east wall of the new History Center, and now this festival that brings people together to celebrate this famous design.”
The festival will feature Coca-Cola collectible dealers and vintage memorabilia, a kids area, community stage, live bands, beer garden and additional activities downtown. Vendors, crafters, makers can apply to participate by clicking here..
