Pence brings years of experience to the position, as a former Downtown Terre Haute Board Member and a current Chamber of Commerce member with her small business, the Hallie Hound Barkery.

“When Stephanie came to us with interest in the DTH position we felt like she was the ideal candidate having spent time involved with both DTH and the Chamber,” says Chamber President David Haynes. “She knows the history of both organizations and has a positive and energetic outlook for the future.”

Pence agrees, explaining she plans to build on many of the positives of downtown, while bringing a fresh perspective. Showing a commitment and interest in the future of downtown, Pence attended many of the DTH community forums held at the Chamber in April.

“I’ve always had a passion for downtown and wanted to be a bigger part of propelling it forward,” Pence says. “It has such a rich history as the Crossroads of America and the heart of Terre Haute. Change will not happen overnight but I feel that with support from downtown business and the community, our downtown can be a very vibrant hub. I’d love to help make downtown a destination where people want to visit, live and work. I am very excited for all the possibilities for DTH.”

Beginning May 30, Pence will embark on her new role with DTH, including overseeing First Friday events, coordinating downtown streetscape initiatives including planter boxes and street banners, along with general downtown promotions. The current Chamber staff and Pence will work as a team on both downtown and Chamber initiatives.

Pence will be leaving her position as a Course Manager for Terre Haute based company Police Technical, a job she’s held since 2013. In addition to a full time role with that company, Pence has continued to grow Hallie Hound Barkery which specializes in cat and dog treats. Pence started the small business in her kitchen in 2008 and currently sells at halliehoundbarkery.com, Heritage Animal Hospital, Brown Veterinary Clinic, Baesler’s Market, the Downtown Farmer’s Market and other events throughout the Wabash Valley.

If that wasn’t enough, Pence has been singled out for her work and community service. Pence was awarded Terre Haute Young Leader of the Year in 2011 and was one of the inaugural 12 Under 40 in 2015. Her business was recognized with an Indiana Small Business Development Award in 2010.

Pence holds an undergraduate degree from Indiana State University and a Masters of Leadership Development from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

A native of Robinson, Ill. Pence made Terre Haute her home in 2001. She is married to Nathan Pence and is mother to daughter Mara, who turns one year-old this August.
