CENTURY 21 ELITE: December Relentless Campaign Recipient, Becky Buse

CENTURY 21 ELITE celebrates the extraordinary with The Relentless Campaign. In a community of exciting projects, progressive movements, and exponential growth, relentless leaders and community members are found at its core. The Relentless Campaign aims to celebrate those making waves in the Terre Haute Community by honoring individuals who truly give the word “relentless” meaning. This month, we are excited to announce our tenth honoree of The Relentless Campaign, who is an individual who truly gives 121%.

Our tenth honoree of The Relentless Campaign, Becky Buse, is definitely someone who has impacted many lives within the Wabash Valley. Becky was nominated for The Relentless Campaign for her selfless advocacy for youth in our community. Becky’s nominator wrote, “I can’t think of another individual that has given more of their time, talent, and treasure than Becky Buse!”

Becky Buse has devoted the majority of her time to helping our community’s youth. Currently, she serves on the Hospice Board and Terre Haute Children’s Museum Board. In addition to these commitments, she is also the Chairperson of the Vigo County Public Defender’s Board. She has also served in other youth-based organizations, such as Big Brother Big Sisters, the Vigo County YWCA, and the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.

In addition to her volunteering spirit, Becky gives back in other ways. During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Becky opted to use her stimulus check to give back to the community. She used this money to buy materials to make homemade face masks to donate to local nonprofits and the Vigo County School Corporation. Becky Buse is someone who truly dedicates time, treasure, and talent to make a difference in our community.

Becky Buse began working with youth as a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) for the Juvenile Justice Task Force. She has always said that her dream job would be a position where she could help as many youths as possible. The reason she is drawn to helping the youth in our community is that she was once one of those children in need.

In this season of giving, a great take away is the joy of making another’s day brighter by lending a hand when they least expect it. Becky Buse stated, “I often wonder if the volunteers realize what a difference they make in these young people’s lives. I’ve seen young people who probably would not have finished high school go on to college”. Devoting a small portion of one’s time could mean the world to a child. Becky’s passion to make an impact has followed her to every community in which she has lived. In addition to her dedication to furthering her community, Becky Buse is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She has been married for 57 years to her husband, Ervin. The two have two children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The impact Becky has made throughout her life has been selfless and extraordinary. The world needs more people like Becky Buse who are willing to devote their own time to help others. Be sure to follow Becky’s example, and search for volunteer opportunities with local nonprofit organizations. We are honored to recognize an extraordinary change-maker and volunteer like Becky Buse. As 2020 comes to a close, CENTURY 21 Elite will continue to recognize relentless individuals like Becky Buse in 2021.
