Celebrate Small Businesses during Small Business Week April 30-May 6th

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce and the West Central Small Business Development Center team up to help celebrate small businesses in our community during National Small Business Week. Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

We want to bring the celebration local so please join us and the mayor as we kick off the week!

WHEN: Monday, May 1, 2017 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, 630 Wabash Ave

Potted plants will be assembled and ready to take to local small business owners as a sign of appreciation. We welcome the public to drop by anytime during the week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to pick up a plant and deliver to their favorite small business in the community.

Here are a few other ways locals can help show their appreciation to small businesses not only this week but 365 days of the year.

  1. Write an Online Review. Good reviews help businesses show up better in search engines. And, since 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal reviews, your review can go a long way. Maybe it will even go viral!
  2. Pay Cash. Ever wonder why some businesses have minimums for a debit/credit card purchase? It’s because the credit card processing companies charge about 3% of each transaction and a per transaction fee just for the business to be able to accept cards.
  3. Connect with Them. via social media. If you like or follow them, then like their posts or share special offers to help them reach more consumers like you. Check in when you’re there or tag them in a post.
  4. Try New Things. Take time to explore local shops, restaurants and venues to see what makes your community unique. Even if once a month you try something new, something local, it can be a fun night out with friends.
  5. Thank Them. If you know a small business owner here in the Wabash Valley, odds are they’ve told you about challenges with staffing, covering all their opening hours, overseeing the marketing, inventory, operations and so much more. Shop there, and take time to thank them. They will certainly thank you for it, too!
