A “Thank You” from Eat in the Streets Organizers

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is pleased to release the below letter from the organizers of Eat in the Streets.
Members of the Community,
On behalf of the many restaurants downtown, we would like to say “thank you” for your support and patronage during Eat in the Streets.
During a time in which so many businesses don’t know how they will pay their bills, pay employees or even stay open, the Terre Haute community has really stepped up to support locally owned businesses. So many of you made it a point to come downtown to eat outside, order carry-out or even leave a few extra dollars for your server. All of those things are noticed and appreciated.
A special kudos goes out to The Verve’s Connie Wrin, who came up with this idea, rallied downtown businesses and worked tirelessly to get this initiative off the ground.
It wouldn’t have happened without a village of locals. We’d also like to thank the City of Terre Haute, Terre Haute Fire Department and Mayor Duke Bennett for the support and manpower to close streets, deliver picnic tables and fill water barriers. Thank you to the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce for their work and constant cheerleading. We appreciate the guidance of Dr. Darren Brucken and the Vigo County Health Department to ensure the public’s safety. And lastly to the SkyGarden Parking Garage and those who donated to provide free parking on both Friday and Saturdays (see below for the full list of sponsors).
Eat in the Streets is officially taking a winter hiatus, but we’ll be back in the spring for more al fresco dining! Until that time we are open inside with social distancing, fully masked staff and constant work to ensure a healthy dining experience.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Connie Wrin and George & Cathy Azar
