New Member Spotlight: Terre Haute Intensity Resistance and Sports Training (THIRST)

The Terre Haute  Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome new member, Terre Haute Intensity Resistance and Sports Training (THIRST). Read more about the fitness and performance facility below.

Congratulations on your business, tel us more about THIRST!

We are a locally owned and operated fitness and performance facility located in Terre Haute, Indiana. We strive to provide world class coaching and fitness services to the greater Wabash Valley community, using scientific and practical applications to help people of all levels and desires to reach their fullest potential, whether that be on the field/court, or just in life.

We work with over 80 clients every week from a variety of populations to help them pursue their performance and health and fitness goals. We work with youth athletes as young as 10 years old, to professional and college athletes, all the way to parents and grandparents looking to improve their daily lives.

Myself and my wife, Adrian Smitley, are the co-owners and head coaches and we also currently have two part-time coaches. Our facility uses a unique semi-private training model, where clients are able to schedule through an app, set their own schedules, and the coaching staff creates their training programs that stay at the facility. This provides a unique “group” atmosphere which is competitive, challenging, and rewarding, but each person has an individualized approach for their goals and movement capabilities. This is also a very price and time efficient option with practice schedules, adult responsibilities, and making it easier to make the training sessions.

What makes you excited or passionate about your business, we hear you’ve very dedicated and passionate!

I have been a personal trainer and strength coach since the age of 20 when I was doing my undergraduate degree at Purdue University. I’ve competed at high levels in wrestling and powerlifting and enjoy coaching and helping people achieve more than what they believe is possible. I was always undersized as an athlete, and strength and conditioning training helped make me a better athlete and has helped me live a healthy lifestyle after my times as an athlete. But more importantly, myself and my staff have the knowledge to provide high quality training, to give people results quicker, but also truly enjoy the fitness side of health. We do more than just provide “workouts”, we provide experiences for dozens of kids each week, teach them about responsibility, leadership, passion, and the intangibles that will go on to make them better adults after their time with us. For our adult populations and personal training clients, it’s watching people that come in with pain, restrictions, weight loss goals, and then seeing them achieve them and do things they couldn’t do weeks or months later. Our motto is “Building Better People Through Strength”, and watching that happen on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis is truly amazing.

It’s not too late to jump on a fitness routine. How can our members get in touch with you or register for a fitness assessment?

If you’re interested in getting in touch with us regarding your fitness, weight loss, or performance goals we can be reached at our website, THIRSTgym.com, you can email us at thirst.training@gmail.com, or you can stop by our facility at 1721 North 13th St., Terre Haute, IN 47804. You can also check us out on Facebook and Instagram (@team.thirst).

If you’re interested in personal training or sports performance training, we do an initial assessment and consultation, where we get to know you as a future client and person, discuss your goals, provide our detailed assessment, and do our performance testing (for athletes) to see how we can personally help you achieve your goals quickly and safely.

What’s coming up next? Any events or promotions you have coming up?

Yes! We have multiple things approaching:

April 2nd, 2022 – We have our spring powerlifting meet which will run from 9am until about 5pm. If you’re interested in seeing big squats, bench presses, or deadlifts this is an awesome event to come see. General admission is $10 for those 13 and older.

June 2022 – We will be hosting our Lift For Lymphoma event, which is a charity deadlift event and all proceeds go to Lymphoma patients locally here in Terre Haute. My wife, Adrian, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2019. We had many people help us, and we know what those bills, treatment, and that lifestyle looks like. We will have this date finalized soon. But more information can be found on our website as well.

August 2022 – This year we are starting our THIRST Futures program. This program is aimed at helping one athlete that is in 7th grade or order attend our sports performance program, free of charge. There is an application process, but we encourage any athlete interested to please apply. Things taken into consideration are GPA, school attendance, recommendations, community engagement, income level, and desire to be part of the program. We essentially want to provide one highly deserving athlete the ability to experience collegiate level strength and conditioning and be rewarded for their hard work off the field/court. Applications are now being accepted until June 30th, 2022.

September 2022 – We will be having our fall powerlifting meet, which will be similar to the spring edition. This event is usually bigger, as more prize money is put forward. Final date is still TBD.

October 2022 – We will be hosting our Bench For Boobs event, which is a charity bench press event, aimed at raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness. All proceeds are donated to PINK of Terre Haute, to keep the funding and help local to the Terre Haute area. Final date is still TBD, but more information is readily available on our website.

Thank you again for the opportunity to share our love and passion for fitness and performance, and the ability to give back to our community!
