 TROUBLE SWALLOWING

It is also known as Dysphagia is a very common condition affecting millions of people across the world. It typically is experienced as food, liquid or pills hanging up in the throat or esophagus.

It can affect any age group even though it is more common in the more mature population.

Common reasons for Trouble swallowing are:

  1. Esophagus reflux
  2. Esophagus narrowing from strictures or narrowing from scar tissue called “Webs”
  3. Eosinophilic esophagitis ( a condition mostly affecting young- middle aged population) where esophagus lining is filled with cells similar to those seen in ASTHMA, cells called “Eosinophils”
  4. Esophagus cancer
  5. Hernias
  6. Ulcers
  7. Esophagus muscle movement is abnormal ( motility ) issues
